After negotiating for nearly three years for a flight attendants contract, the media is reporting that flight attendants at Southwest are pushing for their union president’s recall. The union president is also the head of the negotiations team. According to the TWU’s bylaws and constitution, in order to initialize a recall vote, 50% of the membership must sign a petition requesting a vote and, according to the press reports, Southwest flight attendants are getting close to that number. The Southwest contract became amendable on May 31, 2013. After more than two years of negotiations, a tentative agreement was reached but was rejected in July 2015 by 87% of the flight attendants that participated in the vote. In December 2015, the union announced that the parties resumed negotiations for the first time since the TA was rejected.
