UA agrees to cease job outsourcing pending early negotiations with IAM

On November 6, 2015, United and IAM announced that they had agreed to re-open contracts one year early for expedited negotiation of a “limited number of issues.” At the same time, United had agreed to cease outsourcing “work currently performed” at hub and airport locations. IAM noted that “[w]ithout this agreement, IAM-represented United Airlines employees would have to wait at least until 2017 – and possibly quite longer – to make any contractual improvements.” In 2013-2014, UA had outsourced approximately 900 IAM-represented agents and, in early 2015, announced it was considering outsourcing an additional 2000 jobs at 28 US airports.
